salt salinity water and biofloc

WHAT KIND OF SALT IS USED IN BIOFLOC?

It is Raw Salt which is used in Biofloc. (Kind of salt which is directly from ponds and has not gone through any additional treatment or any added iodine )

Raw Salt It is very useful in fisheries
Why salt is added in Biofloc tank?

Salt is mineral component of water and it has important physiological function in fisheries. It helps in controlling some parasites also minimize stress during transport and help prevent brown blood disease.
Fish cannot be placed in 100% distilled water (salt less water).

That’s why among the most important parameters to be maintained in Biofloc tank is salinity (quantity of salt dissolved in water)

The raw salt salt is a mineral composed of NaCl, Sodium Sulfate Na2SO4, Magnesium sulphate MgSO4,
Composition

In this blog you will get answer to the most common questions new farmers ask about the usage of salt in Biofloc tank. And some uncommon question which no one ask and nobody want to know, I will address them any way.

  • Why salt is used in Biofloc./?
  • What is difference between rock salt and raw salt ?
  • What type of salt is used in Biofloc ?
  • Why salt is used in Biofloc system?

How table salt is made?
To make table salt,  raw salt is washed crushed and screened, sulphate is reduced and as per goverment norms iodine is added

Difference between Raw Salt and Rock Salt

Raw salt and Rock salt are of different color and the size of crystals. Rock salt forms in large crystals whereas raw salt crystals are comparatively small in size. The large crystal size of rock salt means it usually takes long to dissolve in water.

Rock salt are the remains of inland seas which evaporated thousands of years ago.
In contrast, raw salt is harvested from evaporation ponds which remove salt from seawater.

There is not much difference in  the composition of the two salts.
